(Ephesians 5:8)
Parents, leaders, and educators, we have a mission, a duty to lead children's souls toward the Light which will be their guide and their happiness. In order to illuminate the way that lies before each one of us, once a week we invite you to discover some of the words of certain wisemen and witnesses, measuring their worth by the words of St. Thomas Aquinas: “Do not consider the one who speaks, but whatever good you hear from him, confide it to your memory.” (from The Sixteen Ways to Acquire the Treasure of Knowledge by St. Thomas). Happy reading!
“When you educate children, you must be convinced that you are accomplishing one of the noblest works which exist.”
Pius XII
Eugenio Pacelli (1876-1958), Pope from 1939 to 1958
“A child’s soul is holy ground. The baptized soul is a divine earth which must be protected and respected, before it can be raised and educated.
Thus the first responsibility of an educator is to respect the sacredness which slumbers in a soul, to respect that sacredness by raising it in a sacred atmosphere.
It is in the family that the child should first find that sacred atmosphere, by habits of prayer and effort as well as respect for God.
But it is also at school that the child will learn to discern and respect the world, beings and things. It is in his family, but also at school, that the child will little by little acquire the superior, profound, and sacred meaning of his life, and that, after the time of obligations and constraints, he will sense the need and the desire to enter a sacred place in order to lose himself in adoration and renew contact with his baptismal grace.”
Fr. Roger-Thomas Calmel
Dominican (1914-1975)
