(Ephesians 5:8)
Parents, leaders, and educators, we have a mission, a duty to lead children's souls toward the Light which will be their guide and their happiness. In order to illuminate the way that lies before each one of us, once a week we invite you to discover some of the words of certain wisemen and witnesses, measuring their worth by the words of St. Thomas Aquinas: “Do not consider the one who speaks, but whatever good you hear from him, confide it to your memory.” (from The Sixteen Ways to Acquire the Treasure of Knowledge by St. Thomas). Happy reading!
“No sacrifice is worth more to God than the zeal for souls.”
Saint GREGORY THE GREAT (+604)
Pope, Doctor of the Church
“I was always waiting impatiently for an enemy to come along so I could love him, because those who love their enemies necessarily become saints. And then, during the winter of 1923, my first enemy showed up. My enemy had just closed the primary school of Petricani, forbidding me to learn to read and write. This enemy was the Minister of Public Health and Welfare — a daunting name, a name worthy of an enemy if ever there was one. He was the one who had sent the Health and Welfare Agent to expel all the students from their classes and paste a sign on the door reading “School Closed Due to Epidemic.” I was miserable. My studies were cut short just two months after having been begun. My father proposed to teach me, and so did my mother, and they were as competent as the school mistress — but it just didn’t work for me. Nothing can replace school — just as no personal prayers said at home can replace the prayers of the liturgy at church.”
