Saint Therese School in Schönenberg is a catholic private school for girls. It is officially recognized and can thus give the diploma enabling students to go to university, in Germany called “Abitur”.
Saint Therese School was founded in 1991 by Sister Maria-Michaela Metz, an oblate of the SSPX, who was its headmistress until 2020. With her religious sisters’ help and thanks to her charism as an educator, she gained a good reputation for her school.
The buildings which are from the beginning of the 20th century belonged initially to the sisters of Saint Vincent of Paul who cared there for sick and tired mothers. They also schooled the young girls of the surrounding villages in domestic arts.
Since 2020, at the demand of the SSPX, the Dominican sisters of Fanjeaux have been in charge of the school.
They welcome at present (2023) 112 young ladies of whom 30 are day-students. The nearest elementary school of the congregation is at a 5 minutes’ distance, in the village of Bröleck, where the sisters take care of children from 3 to 6, boys and girls.
