Always a lady

“Walk as children of the light”
(Ephesians 5:8)

Parents, leaders, and educators, we have a mission, a duty to lead children's souls toward the Light which will be their guide and their happiness. In order to illuminate the way that lies before each one of us, once a week we invite you to discover some of the words of certain wisemen and witnesses, measuring their worth by the words of St. Thomas Aquinas: “Do not consider the one who speaks, but whatever good you hear from him, confide it to your memory.” (from The Sixteen Ways to Acquire the Treasure of Knowledge by St. Thomas). Happy reading!

The mother is the fire, the children the light. By the brilliance of the light, you may know the strength of the fire.

Cardinal Jozsef Mindzenty (1892-1975)
Prince-Primate of Hungary

“There was something about my mom that I really appreciated: she was always a lady, down to her very core. As regards her children, she maintained a maternal superiority which made me feel the wickedness I was doing in transgressing her authority. Such behavior, on my part, caused her sadness, because it was both barbarism and wrongdoing at the same time. She was a lady, and in every domain of her life she made sure that order prevailed. Her authority was complemented with gentleness and grace. Sometimes my mom knew how to punish; but the punishment itself, or her reprimand, was so full of gentleness that you even felt comforted. Furthermore, goodness made up the very essence of her noble conduct, conferring on her a superiority bound with disinterest and affection out of love for the hierarchical order of things.”
