My maternal grandmother – who had five sons and two daughters – said “My dear daughters, don’t worry about who your future husband is going to be. God has already chosen for each one of you. You have only to pray.” My grandmother told her sons and daughters that they would never find their future spouses at evening dances. She considered it unseemly for a Catholic to look for a future spouse at dances, so her children obeyed.

“I never had any psychological problems in my life. I believe it’s because I received a great deal of love from my parents, and because their marriage was so very harmonious. I grew up in a very unified and harmonious home. My father didn’t even smoke! He was very devoted to us, and both my parents gave us, their children, an example of a life in full communion with the Catholic Faith. I can say that my parents’ hearts were in the Eucharist, and they taught us to love and to venerate the Holy Eucharist profoundly. Even when they were old, they always insisted on receiving Holy Communion on their knees, and when my father could no longer do it because of knee problems, he deeply regretted having to receive Holy Communion standing up.”
