The secret of nobility

“Walk as children of the light”
(Ephesians 5:8)

Parents, leaders, and educators, we have a mission, a duty to lead children's souls toward the Light which will be their guide and their happiness. In order to illuminate the way that lies before each one of us, once a week we invite you to discover some of the words of certain wisemen and witnesses, measuring their worth by the words of St. Thomas Aquinas: “Do not consider the one who speaks, but whatever good you hear from him, confide it to your memory.” (from The Sixteen Ways to Acquire the Treasure of Knowledge by St. Thomas). Happy reading!

There’s nothing so beautiful, nothing so great, that can’t be penetrated by pain. That secret of nobility in Anne-Marie’s eyes, that light beyond joy and sorrow, perhaps that was it.

“My poor little girl, you see I’m leaving you… You’re the eldest, so you’ll be the lady of the house. You will have the servants say their prayers in the evenings, and you will look after the linen, clothes and provisions, just like I’ve shown you, and make sure everything is well taken care of. You can’t think of yourself anymore, my Anne-Marie, and you will have to start thinking about your father and sister. I’m leaving them to you, you are replacing me, and I’m going in peace.”
