(Ephesians 5:8)
Parents, leaders, and educators, we have a mission, a duty to lead children's souls toward the Light which will be their guide and their happiness. In order to illuminate the way that lies before each one of us, once a week we invite you to discover some of the words of certain wisemen and witnesses, measuring their worth by the words of St. Thomas Aquinas: “Do not consider the one who speaks, but whatever good you hear from him, confide it to your memory.” (from The Sixteen Ways to Acquire the Treasure of Knowledge by St. Thomas). Happy reading!
“Honor is like love: it’s not something learned, but something lived. ”
Colonel de BLIGNIÈRE (1914-1989)
A soldier who fought in the torments of the century
“Out of all the epic knights, Roland is the purest type and the ideal of the Frenchman. Both spontaneous and reckless, proud and good, loyal and faithful, he expends all his strength and honor to serve a cause that is beyond him. It is perhaps greater to fall in the name of such a cause than to triumph with it, for the sacrifice of Roland’s youth adds to his grandeur. Roland is reincarnated in every century of our history. He was already in Vercingetorix, and following his own time he would be reincarnated in St. Louis. He is Joan of Arc, Bayard and Gaston de Foix. He is the young man of Saint-Cyr who, in 1914, charged in white gloves and Casoar (red and white plumes), and he is this handful of students who defended Saumur in June 1940 against the tide of the German invasion crossing the Loire. Michelet heard in the Song of Roland, “the strong voice of the people and the grave tone of its heroes.”
